FED:Govt reports on TV and film sector

The federal government will consider increasing tax incentives to boost foreign investment
in Australia's television and film sector.

The government's released the findings of its review of the screen sector .. which
has been hit by the global financial crisis and a rising Australian dollar.

It says the industry appears to be in good health with record government investment
.. despite concerns Australia is struggling to attract productions onshore.

The review's acknowledged the production lull .. but says three tax offsets introduced
in 2007 are helping to cushion the blow.

Industry stakeholders have told the inquiry the 15 per cent location rebate is similar
to the levels offered in New Zealand and the UK .. but falls well below rates in Canada
.. the US and eastern Europe.
